Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and TPC Myrtle Beach were ranked 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the most recent publication of Golf Advisor’s Top 25 Courses in South Carolina listing. The rankings were determined based off of ratings and reviews submitted by members of the Golf Advisor community.
Designed by Tom Fazio in 1999, TPC Myrtle Beach features plush, tree-lined fairways and pristine greens. Despite receiving a number of accolades, the club is arguably most renowned for its five-star rating in Golf Digest’s “Places to Play” – the only course on the Grand Strand and just one of 17 other layouts in the nation to receive such a rating.
TPC Myrtle Beach also hosted the Senior Tour Championship in 2000, won by the legendary Tom Watson. But this isn’t the course’s only affiliation with the PGA. TPC Myrtle Beach is also home to the Dustin Johnson Golf School. A South Carolina native and current competitor on the PGA TOUR who played plenty of competitive collegiate golf here while at Coastal Carolina, Johnson has long known the quality of the property which has hosted the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship for four years running now.
In addition to being ranked 3rd on the list of best courses in South Carolina, TPC Myrtle Beach was recognized at No. 49 in the nation. The course was also ranked 18th in Golf Advisor’s national listing of the Top 25 off-course amenities thanks to its stunning clubhouse. Overlooking the 18th green, the building features a plantation-style exterior and Scottish-style interior. Inside the clubhouse you’ll find a fully-stocked pro shop and the all-new Champions Pub, an excellent post-round happy hour spot.
Caledonia Golf & Fish Club placed just ahead of TPC Myrtle Beach, coming in 2nd place in the state and 33rd in the nation. Built upon a former rice plantation, Caledonia’s beauty is undeniable. An oak tree tunnel and sweeping marshland views make for the most dazzling welcome to any course along the Grand Strand. And the 18 holes that follow are just as breathtaking.
Caledonia Golf & Fish Club was also ranked 12th in the nation in Golf Advisor’s Top 25 golf courses rated by conditions. Although the course is well-maintained throughout, its immaculate Bermudagrass fairways and greens are the highlight of any round. Play the course at just the right time during the spring and you’ll find yourself surrounded by azaleas in full bloom. While no course quite compares to Augusta National, we think it comes pretty close.
Caledonia has also received additional recognition from both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine and, like TPC Myrtle Beach, features a stunning antebellum-era clubhouse.
