One is a true throwback, while the other is a fresher take on another Lowcountry original design.

Together, Litchfield Country Club and Founders Club at Pawleys Island are among the best “historical” playing options you’ll find not only along the Waccamaw Golf Trail but throughout the entire Grand Strand, as each course’s roots date back more than a half century.

Though each course opened for play in 1966, Litchfield Country Club has maintained the original identity it opened with as one of the area’s very first golf courses – and the first along the Grand Strand’s southern shores that are home to the 12 courses of the Waccamaw Golf Trail. As it has since that very first year, Litchfield continues to exude Southern charm that’s brimming with beautiful live oaks, Spanish moss and a spectacular array of seasonal colors. And within this postcard Lowcountry setting resides a traditional shot-maker’s golf course, calling for keen course management and the use of virtually every club in your bag.

Founders Club at Pawleys Island, on the other hand, actually began the same year under a different identity. Sea Gull Golf Club was a Gene Hamm design that was the fourth-ever golf course built in the entire Myrtle Beach area, but for years offered an identity marked more by tree-lined fairways on land that was once home to flourishing rice plantations. In 2006, course architect Thomas Walker took on a major renovation project to erect a new design atop the existing Sea Gull track. By 2008 Founders Club at Pawleys Island came to life, transforming a relatively flat design into a dynamic new presentation boasting sloping fairways, elevation changes, extensive mounding and an abundance of waste areas filled with natural beach sand.

Together, these two tracks with unique Lowcountry historical roots offer enticing options for your next Waccamaw Golf Trail getaway!
