What every golfer wants More Distance!
The key to hitting the ball farther with the modern driver and golf ball (which spins much less than balls of the past) is high launch combined with a low rate of spin. Assuming you have a driver with enough loft for your swing characteristics, here are three things that you can do to increase launch and decrease spin rate, thus increasing your distance of the tee:
TEE THE BALL HIGHER
The old adage was tee the ball so that half the ball is above the top of the driver. However with a 460cc driver, the average golfer would do better to raise their ball height so that two thirds of the ball is above the top of the driver.
MOVE THE BALL FORWARD IN STANCE
Playing the ball off the left heel is no longer valid. For most golfers playing the ball of the big toe will be enough; however some will even need to move it more forward. Experiment with different positions, to find the one that works the best.
SET UP FOR HITTING ON THE SWEET SPOT
Many golfers set up with their driver on the ground at address. This results in a high percentage of shots being hit on the heel side of the face, especially when teeing the ball higher than the old standard. Instead of setting up with the center of the ball aligned with the center of the club, move the club back so that the toe of the club is aligned with the ball. This will greatly increase the percentage of sweet spot hits dramatically.
